  1. Every lens has a filter size number posted on the front ring around the front element glass. Popular sizes are 49, 52, and 55.

  2. Pop off your lens cap and look on the back.  It will have a number with a symbol that looks like a circle with a line through it.  That will be your filter size.  It won't be in your camera's manual.  That's just for the camera, and not the lens.

If you tell us what lens it is, that will be more helpful than the camera model, by the way.

  3. It's in the camera's manual. You can also call a camera store or the company itself and ask. If you tell us what camera it is, we can probably tell you what the size is.

I have two lenses that do not have filter sizes on them, you may indeed find it there, you may not. I did find my filter size in my manual though.

  4. It depends on the lens

  5. Hmm..

well, it depends on which camera brand you have, if you have a nikon or a canon style digital SLR camera, you can just go on the website, and it should be right in the specifications, i know for a fact that on http://nikon.com, they display everything you might need to know about the lens, like the filter size, and the lens hood you should get for it.

oh, and it should also be right on the lens, or in the little manual that the lens came in ( if it came with any, some do, and some don't, it depends on which lens you get, and how much money you pay to get it..

  6. All lenses are marked with a filter size in millimeters (mm) on the lens barrel.

    Typically it's with a Φ symbol, such as Φ55mm or Φ58 or Φ58mm

Do not confuse the filter size with the lens focal length (which is also measured in mm).

Another way:  check your lens cap. On the back side of the lens cap will be a stamping showing the mm size of the lens cap, which will be identical to the filter size.

Finally:  Just bring your camera down to a real camera store and find a filter that will s***w on.  Not much good if you're buying online, but it does work to make sure something will fit.
