SLUC Nancy and Partizan MT: S record wins: Euroleague Basketball November 10th review
SLUC Nancy Vs Caja Laboral
SLUC Nancy claimed its second victory of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague 2011 after overpowering Caja Laboral 90-85 in a thrilling encounter on Thursday night.
Caja entered the game as favourites as they were unbeaten in the three games so far but their winning streak was ended courtesy of a clinical performance by Nancy, who with this win has improved its record to 2-2.
Nancy knocked down 15 for 19 from the free throw line and almost 50 percent - 7 for 16 from downtown - on the night. Portland Trail Blazers star Nicolas Batum who is representing SLUC in this league, has been outstanding in the
tournament so far and continued with his brilliance. He scored 21 points along with 9 rebounds however it was Akin Akingbala, who guided Nancy to a victory by scoring game high 26 points including 11 for 16 from paint and also forced 7 rebounds. Pape Philippe
Amagou was also monumental and chipped in with his 16 while Adrian Moerman added another 13.
From Laboral, Mirza Teletovic was yet again the most outstanding player and completing a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds. He was supported well by Fernando San Emeterio and Kevin Seraphin who added 19 and 12 points
respectively.
Both teams were neck to neck by the end of first half with Nancy only leading by 4 points 49-45. In high scoring third quarter, Laboral fought hard but never managed to get ahead of their opponents. Two strikes by Batum and Akin
in the dying seconds of third quarter levitated Nancy’s lead to 6, 70-64 and ensured they went into the last quarter with a psychological edge.
Caja gave everything they had in the last quarter but unfortunately the third quarter deficit held them from edging past Nancy and when the buzzer rang, they were found 5 points short of Nancy.
Partizan MT: S Vs Real Madrid
In yet another thriller, Partizan managed to hold nerves in the final moments to edge past the mighty Real Madrid side, 80-79.
Both teams were levelled at 78 all with less than a minute in the game but two free throws from star of the night Acie Law helped Partizan in collecting their second victory of the Euroleague 2011.
In what was a team effort, Nicola Pekovic scored 20 points, Milan Macvan completing a double-double ended with 16 points and 12 rebounds while Acie Law and Dusan Kecman scored 14 and 10 points respectively.
Jaycee Carroll led the losing team with 21 points and was supported well by Sergio Llull and Rudy Fernandez who added 13 points each.
Partizan started brilliantly with a 10 point run and dominated the first quarter completely which ended at 22-16, however Jaycee Carroll and Pekovic made sure Partizan did not run away with the show and kept on chipping with points
to keep their team in the hunt. A three by Rudy in 28th minute got Real ahead for the first time in game. Real were leading 61-57 by the end of third quarter.
Last quarter was the most exciting of all. Scores were levelled in the last minute but one after other two free throws by Acie Law decided the fate of game and Partizan in the end won by 80-79.
