SLUC Nancy and Real Madrid win: Euroleague Basketball Roundup October 27 – Part 3
On Thursday, October 27th, seven games took place in Turkish Airlines Euroleague. Here is a brief overview of these games:
SLUC Nancy 87- Bizkaia Bilbao Basket 73
At Palais Des Sports Jean Weille Arena, SLUC Nancy edged past Bizkaia Bilbao Basket to record their first win in the Euroleague 2011.
Nicolas Batum was the player of the night and led the winning team with game high 26 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Adrien Moerman sealed 15 points while Akin Akingbala missed a double-double by a bristle with 14 points along
with 9 rebounds.
Marko Banic guided the losing side with 16 points; Kosts Vasiliadis added 12 while Aaron Jackson had 11 points at the end of the game.
SLUC dominated right from the start quickly gaining a 4 point lead in the starting minutes of the game. However, Bilbao’s offense got stronger as the quarter proceeded and by the end of it, Bilbao found themselves ahead by 1 point
18-17.
What followed was cracker of a game and both teams were neck to neck until the closing minutes. However a 15 point run in the dying moments of the game pushed the game in direction of SLUC Nancy leaving Bizkaia Bilbao Basket in
disbelief.
Real Madrid 85- Emporio Armani 78
Around 11 thousand fans who had assembled in Madrid Caja Magica went back home with happy faces as their team Real Madrid outshined Emporio Armani in their second match of Euroleague 2011.
However it was not an easy win.
Jaycee Carroll led the winning team with 21 points shooting 4 for 4 from three point range. Rudy Fernandez added another 17 whereas Segrio Llull and Marty Pocius also made significant contributions amassing 13 and 11 points respectively.
Drew Nicholas was the most dominant player from the losing side, ending with game high 24 points. He was pretty accurate on the night, shooting 7 for 8 from free throw line and 3 for 7 from three point range. Malik Hairston with
14 and Danilo Gallinari who chipped in with his 12 points supported Drew well.
Armani managed to get ahead in the first five minutes of the game, leading 8-4, however some fireworks from Emporio in the second half of first quarter ensured that Emporio went into second quarter with a lead of 4 points 18-14.
Both team got aggressive on the offense in the second quarter. Armani were the better off and were leading 39-33 with only a minute to go however a three pointer by Madrid’s player slashed the lead to 3 points. In the third quarter,
courtesy of Drew Nicholas, Emporio Armani managed to get ahead by 13 points, but Real responded strongly with a 21-7 to again come within striking range. Madrid then hounded Emporio in the last frame and went on to winning the game.
