Only mature answers plz (and fast).

For the past few days I had some cramps every now and then, and then I started my period last night at about eleven (it's not the first time) and I put in a tampon and all of a sudden my ears started ringing for just a second, and my face felt hot, I got chill bumps, I almost threw up, and I felt like this for about five minutes. I went to sleep cuz it was late and then I woke up at about 4:00 am and I felt the same but with SEVERE cramps. I didn't wake anyone up but I went to the kitchen and took some Pepto Bismol and stayed my the trash can. I finally felt so bad I layed on the cold kitchen floor for 10 minutes. I finally went back to bed about 30 minutes later and I felt back to normal (before I went to bed I took out the tampon) and at 9:25 I woke up feeling bad again. I took a hot shower and I felt like I was going to throw up. it's 10:17 and I feel normal. What is going on? Did the tampon cause this? Plz truthful answers only! 10 pts

  1. well without an exam and further medical history its impossible to tell but i can say that the tampon didnt cause the illness. Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) wouldnt come on that quick. as it seems you were ill before you used the tampon. it is possible that you have endometriosis and when you put the tampon in it aggravated it.

endometriosis is where the lining of the uterus grows outside and covers the cervix and sometimes further. it can be very painful. with the symptoms you described but only your OB/GYN can diagnosis it.

  2. I am not a doctor, but maybe you have toxic shock syndrome due to the tampon. I wonder if you have had used tampons before and if it were always of the same brand?  Have you washed your hands before inserting the tampon?

They say that TSS is dangerous and you'd better contact your doctor.

Anyway, if this really is caused ny the tampon, tell us which brand it is and if this is the first time you had this.  In the future you might want to try tampons that have no chemical unhealthy stuff in them, like those from Natracare or use menstrual cups.

  3. This is something that you should schedule an appointment with your gynecologist.  Only a physician who has seen you can really make a diagnosis and tell you whats going on.

To attempt to answer your questions, the tampon is unlikely to be the cause and It isn't toxic shock syndrome, due to your description of the onset.

Endometriosis is a possibility but to me based on your description it is much more likely just really severe menstrual cramps.  They can cause nausea as well as that waxing and waning effect.

Again schedule an appointment as soon as you can so you can figure out whats going on.  There are treatments out there for you and you don't need to suffer needlessly.

  4. I wonder what your blood pressure was like... It sounds like your blood pressure dopped..

I also wonder if you pushed your tampon a bit too high and touched your cervix (the top of the v****a, where the womb connects)- because stimulating that area sometimes causes dizziness, dropping blood pressure (which causes you to be dizzy, ringing ears...etc)...

I also wonder if you were anemic... Are your priods heavy?

I would keep your fluid intake up (make sure you are well hydrated) and get a blood pressure check up by a nurse at your local GP's... If you get these symtomps again, please see a doctor to get you checked up.

Stay away from tampons till you figure out a cause.

    All the best.

ADDITION: is there any chance you were pregnant??  passed a clot? that can stimulate your cervix and causes your symptoms..

Do you have fever?? TSS is a possibility.
