  1. to get on a lift you basically just go up to the line and watch out of the corner of your eye. you want to sit down just before it hits your legs.

getting off is a lot trickier. you basically have to stand up and let the lift push you, and put your back foot right in front of your binding so you can kind of control where youre going. its like skimboarding with one foot glued to the board, give it too much turn and youll spin out

and while your dad is right about the balance thing, if you get going too fast for your comfort youll inevitably catch an edge and eat it hard.

have lots of fun, and try not to come home in a matchbox

  2. Basically, as the lift is approaching where you are getting off, turn your board sideways (make it perpendicular to the chair) and when you hit the ground, put your other foot (the one that isnt strapped in) on the board and just glide off. Dont try and control the board by walking (i tried it and ended up falling)

I would recommend taking a beginners lesson with your friends. The instructors will tell you how to ride, what you do to get on and off the lift among other things. I know that you are going to fall many times, but dont worry, everybody falls too (even the experts) I would caution about going too fast because you can fall harder if you go fast.

  3. i went boarding for my first time last year and it was so fun!!! getting on a lift is simple.. you just sit down when it comes around and ride it up. when it comes to getting off its a little harder lol. the first three times i got off a lift i ate snow haha. its a slow fall so it doesnt really hurt but its funny when youre doing it with all your friends and they fall too haha. you just need to practice almost. expect to fall the first couple times.. make sure you bend your knees a little and put your foot that isnt in the binding between the bindings on the board and coast off.. dont be scared about embarassing yourself infront of the seasoned boarders just have fun with it and laugh when you all fall. :)it is true that you have better balance at higher speeds but dont go too fast because it hurts more to fall at higher speeds and since its your first time you will fall.dont be scared!! ITS SO FUN! you'll have a blast!

  4. ugh....

I hate lift n00bs.  They alwyas clog the lines.  hahah jk.

Yeah you'll get the hang of it after a few times.  The hardest part is steering ewhen you get off.  Just don't lean or hang on anyone when you get off, that usually causes a major acident lol.

Just remember, everybody falls a few times.  I still do every once in a while so don;t worry that much

  5. What everybody has said is true...

You can (and should) practice riding and making small controlled turns on the bunny slope with just your front foot fixed in the binding and your back foot 'loose' on the board in front of your back binding.  This will give you the skills and confidence to step off the lifts with no problems.

Yes, that sort of practice seems boring, but it will pay dividends, trust me :)

    Good luck and enjoy!
