You know..all the ones who spent last year Bashing Charlie Weis and calling Notre Dame racist?

Saturday was just another example of the real reason Willingham can't keep a job (and not just at Notre Dame)... because he SUCKS. And he cant't recruit worth a d**n weither.

As for Weis..you don't need to worry about him..either he will turn the Irish around this season, or he will be gone, period.

Football Q: Can you think of other coaches that have sucked as bad as Willingham and yeet still continue to get hired from one School after another?

  1. I think Willingham is a decent coach who was fired from Notre Dame because he wasn't a "Notre Dame" coach.  It means a lot to coach at Notre Dame; it doesn't matter if you "just win" you need to play the game, be a part of all the pageantry and stuff that goes along with it.  I don't think Willingham got into all that, so he was fired and they brought in a guy who understood the Notre Dame way.

  2. Willingham is having ups and downs at Washington, just like he did at ND...He may be gone if they have a losing season this year...I like the man...He has good moral values that he instills in his players...but they have to be able to play football...

I'm reserving judgement on Charlie Weis for this season(and saying a LOT of prayers and keeping my fingers crossed) and hoping that last season was just a bump in the road...To an extent, the first 2 years showed that Weis was good at getting the most out of players...Last year, he could argue that there were a lot of Freshmen...Now, it remains to be seen how well he knows talent himself...and whether he can recruit AND coach his OWN players...He got Jimmy Clausen...If ND gets to a bowl and wins, I'll be satisfied...but Clausen hardly looked like the best HS QB in the nation last year...Yes, I do blame the horrible OL for most of last season...

If they spiral out of control, ,(to say nothing of losing to SD State in the opener next week), and get blown out by Michigan, who is having a tough time adjusting to Rich Rodriguez and lots of new players, suffice it to say I think the season will be another disaster like last year and Weis will be fired...

  3. I have to admit, I thought ND should have given him another year. I thought Davey was horrible, and Ty needed more time. I stand corrected. He should be at some d1aa school, teaching life more than football. I didn't really think his firing was racist, as much as a chance to get Weis.

I can think of several in the pros, but I am having a hard time coming up with one in college.

  4. Ty Willingham is what he is; a .500  Div 1-A football coach. Nothing more nothing less. If you think the Oregon game was bad, what's it going to be like against Oklahoma? What was that AD thinking?

I do hope he lasts until October 25, because I think the Huskies can beat the Irish, and the guy deserves a shot.  But anyone expecting miracles out of Willingham will be waiting a long time.

Having said that, he's better than a lot of coaches. He IS .500 after all. he could be Ted Roof, the coach of the Duke Blue Devils.  Roof was 6-45 in four years in the panty-waisted

ACC. On top of that, they were only 3-33 in conference.  I think the infamous Blue Devil lacrosse team could beat their football team on the gridiron. Roof is now defensive coordinator at Minnesota.

I like Weis, but he thinks he's Parcells, and he's not (except at the dinner table, maybe).  I think he's a better pro coach than college coach. Of course, that may be just because he had Brady, who really knows?

  5. As an Irish fan I couldn't agree more. I never liked Ty from the day he took over for Davie. I didn't see much of an upside or upgrade however you'd like to put it.

Willingham just doesn't care about wins or losses he would rather get these kids through school which is great. The only problem is he is a coach not a guidance counselor and coaches are judged by wins and losses and when it comes to that he sucks. He is nothing more than a guidance counselor that stands on the sidelines on Saturdays.

  6. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_Dame_...

"In firing Willingham, the Notre Dame athletic department cited a relatively poor record of 21–15, a weak recruiting class, and three losses, each by 31 points, to rival USC. However, the Irish also hoped to entice Urban Meyer, the head coach of the Utah Utes, to lead Notre Dame. Meyer had just led the Utes to an undefeated season and he had a clause in his contract that stated he could leave Utah without a penalty to coach for the Irish."

Oh..gee, aside form a handful of starters, what does Rivals say about the mighty Willingham?  Yep..that he left the cupboard bare, AND, oh yeah, most of the Irish 2 deep from last season was made up of WHAT?  Willingham recruits.

Willinghams last recruiting class?  ranked 40th in the Nation..at South Bend?  Love them or hate them.. therre is NO excuse for a team s Prominent as Notre Dame (or USC or OSU, etc) to rank under the top 10 in recruiting.

SGoldperson, you need to get your facts straight dude.

*Mr Blibity..good answer..but Notre Dame was actually targeting Urban Meyer when they fired Willingham.  Can't blame them for wanting to replace a lame duck like Ty with a proven Winner like Urban.

  7. He can't recruit? Oh and then who recruited Quinn who was so good at Notre Dame? Who's team was Weis using the first couple years when he was doing good? Yeah it was those sucky recruits.

Edit: I'll agree that his firing wasn't racist. My point is that Weis had his recruits last year, and look where that got him. Personally I think Quinn was overrated, but that's another story. My point was that if Willingham was so bad then why is Weis so bad as well? As to the recruiting I think Weis's classes have been overrated. I also think that it is harder to recruit because ND has been down for a few years. The big names want to go to places like USC and Ohio State.

  8. Willingham sucks, LOL.

You listed why..but then again, Weis sucks too.  Big fat t**d.  And if this little Southern Girl remembers right..that big bad Notre Dame team had what..5 decent players on the team?  Quinn (a backup QB), Samardija (the Baseball boy), Zibikoski (a boxer who MIGHT start someday), and Walker who can't even MAKE an NFL roster.  Wow..great recruiting job Mr Willingham.

What more needs to be said?  Oh yeah... GO AUBURN!!!

  9. ND  is very racist ...I was there in 72..
