I've been having really really bad tension headaches for a while. My doctor told me they are from tension and prescribed SOMA. He prescribed 1 SOMA at night for headaches as needed. On days when the headache starts at work, I will also take one when I feel the pain coming on.

I was wondering what kinds of side effects that other people have had. I can't tell for sure but I seem to be getting a bit depressed.

  1. I'm a bit confused. Soma is brand name for a medication called carisoprodol which is a muscle relaxant and I have not seen this used for headaches. Typical symptoms are drowsiness, HEADACHE, dizziness. This medication even has dependency potential .First line drug therapy for tension headaches are medications such as ibuprofen.  Usually I see Soma prescribed for muscle spasms. Sorry I cant be more helpful, unless the depression you are feeling is just a result from feeling tired after taking the Soma.

  2. CARISOPRODOL ( Carisoma, Soma ) is used, along with rest, physical therapy, and other measures, for the relief of acute, painful muscle strains and spasms.

Most important fact about CARISOPRODOL ( Carisoma, Soma )

CARISOPRODOL ( Carisoma, Soma ) alone will not heal your muscles. You need to follow the program of physical therapy, rest, or exercise that your doctor prescribes. Do not attempt any more physical activity than your doctor recommends, even though CARISOPRODOL ( Carisoma, Soma ) temporarily makes it seem feasible. The effects of CARISOPRODOL ( Carisoma, Soma ) during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. This drug appears in breast milk and could affect a nursing infant. If CARISOPRODOL ( Carisoma, Soma ) is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding until your treatment is finished.
