  1. Daytimes the temp is between 12°C and 19°C, shirt and fleece is enough.  Nights get down to 5°C to 10°C occasionally cooler.

    Basically wear what you would be comfortable in today in the UK.

    But two other things.  Remember that there will be a constant sea breeze which can make things feel several degreees cooler.  Also as you go up in gets colder, in old money that is 3°F/1000Ft.

    On museums none of the art museums allow flash photos and many the curators will confiscate digital cameras.

    Pompeii and Herculaneum are both outdoor exhibits so photography is not a problem.

  2. - Amalfi Coast--Amazingly beautiful.  Check out the lemons in Amalfi.  They are the size of grapefruits.

    - Pompeii--Amazing ruins

    - Vesuvius--Fun hike

    - Capri or Ischia--Beautiful, great windsurfing

    - Take some time to explore downtown Napoli, enjoy the pizza and seafood, and the frenetic pace

  3. Pompeii is pretty amazing. So is Mt. Vesuvius. I'd highly suggest taking the bus to the top of the volcano and checking it out. You can even see smoke/steam coming out of it... a little alarming for sure.

    Also, you can catch a ferry and go to the island of Ischia. I would definitely recommend doing this. There are hot springs and spas there, and the island is just gorgeous.

    You can also take a bus south and check out the Amalfi Coast. It's breathtakingly beautiful and very close by.

    If you don't have the time to take day trips outside of Sorrento, just walk around the city. It's really not that large and you will see some amazing things just by doing some of your own exploration.

  4. If you are going to Sorrento, you must go to Pompeii, and Herculaneum. Pompeii is stunning, and you will spend hours and hours there before you know where the time has gone. It's worth taking one of the guided tours (a half day to cover Pompeii and Vesuvius), just to get familiar with it, and then return on your own. The train to the town is cheap, and so is entry, so the return visit will not cost much, and you'll be better placed to explore it at your own leisure and pace. On a good day, Pompeii is a photographer's paradise. You can always find streets with not too many people in them, for photographing.

    If you go on the train from Sorrento to Pompeii, it passes over a viaduct, a kind of railroad on stilts, which is quite high. There's (or there was!) a bit of scary Italian engineering there, which was meant to fix a problem with one of the stilts, which dropped in height several feet following one of the local earth tremors, leaving a space between the top of the stilt and the railroad. The Italian solution? To wedge a railway sleeper in the gap!

    Herculaneum was also destroyed by the eruption, but not to the same extent as Pompeii, so you will see more multi-storey ruins in Herculaneum. However, only a small fraction of the old Herculaneum has been excavated yet.

    I don't know about museum photography, but it's almost certain that flash and tripods won't be allowed. Ask.

  5. Sorrento is my favorite city!  You have to check out the inlaid wooden music boxes.  Sorrento is known for them.  There are a few tourist trap stores in the middle of the city.  They have beautiful products, but are expensive.  There is a little store on a side street (I can't remember the name).  I have been to him twice now.  He makes all his own jewelry box and art.  He speaks English a little bit too.  His prices are very reasonable.

    You also should check out the pottery.  Bring home a small trinket to remember your time in Sorrento.  Enjoy your trip!

    I will be there in April.

  6. I' M ITALIAN!!!

    Sorrento is pretty....so than Pompei,Positano, Amalfi end Pompei:)

  7. Hi ! I'm Italian, I live in Italy and I was born in Sorrento area ( so I apologize for my English...).

    I suggest you to visit :

    1) Naples: Museo Archeologico, Palazzo Reale, Castel dell'Ovo, Piazza Plebiscito, Galleria and ( if you have time) Capodimonte;

    2)Pompeii and Hercolaneum

    3) Sorrento and Capri island (very close to Sorrento)

    4) Paestum , a Greek-Roman archeological site that has 3 well conserved Greek temples( to me it's the most beautiful archeological site in Naples area); you get there by train ( 1 hour south from Pompeii);

    5) Amalfi and Positano: wonderful coast;

    The weather of Sorrento area is a middle ground between San Francisco and Los Angeles: in March you find 18/19 ° of temperature. You can wear there, the same way you wear in California in March.

    In some museum you can take pics.You can't use flash to take pics to "Villa dei Misteri's frescos" in Pompeii.

    Enjoy your time in Sorrento! Bye
