SPAIN ref exchange rate?

going to majorca soon on hols what is the exchane rate over there in the shop any one been recently?

Currency is the Euro (as with most member staes of the EU)

You'd be better off getting Euros at a bank, post office int he UK as the local exchange rate will almost certainly be a rip off. But check the rates here at each outlet (there can be a wide range between difffernet outlets, some also charge commission). Most places charge a differnet rate between buying and selling  (called the spread) so you  need to ensure that you look at the right rate the rate they are selling Euros at

Most outlets in Spain will happily take credit and debit cards, but none I found in Mallorca would give a cash refund / money back on a purchase. Onbe or two places refused to accept a UK dredit card (it was soemthing to do with their bank (it might have been a equipment issue I forget) so it pays to ask prior to buying anything with a card (eg a meal, drink etc) if they accept the card, rather than having to scrabble round to find the cash equivalent

The currency used in Spain is the Euro.

Currency fluctuates from day to day, so your best bet is to see a site such as this: http://finance.yahoo.com/currency?u

Today (31 Aug 2006), for instance, a British pound is equivalent to 1.4833 Euros (1 US Dollar = 0.7778 Euros)

cash back at shop tills does not exist within Spain or its islands. You can use credit or debit cards in shops, but you will need to show your passport or full photcard driving licence to verify your identity, www.xe.com gives exchange rates constantly updated

The average over the last few years has been 1.4 euros to the pound. Generally you get 2 to 2.5% less than the base rate.

Some credit cards charge "commission" like Barclaycard but you get a good exchange rate.

Always recommended not to carry too much cash.

Just got back. I got E1.41 here in UK, but in Madrid got E1.31

(E = euro's sign!)
