SPANDEX??? uh...?

Question

Who the h**l came up with the idea of spandex shorts for volleyball? I understand why bikers wear biking shorts, but why are their's way longer than volleyball players? I've heard people talking about how much more comfortable they are than regular shorts, but I don't understand how a peice of fabric up your butt the whole time you're playing could be comfortable. Ah, the wedgies...

IT is alright! I think it is sorda a stupid idea when I had to wear them my first couple of years in high school when I played it! But then i got used to it! But, hey you will get some guys to talk to you! IT worked for me! Now, I have all the guys I want all over me! I love it!

I felt the same way when I had to start wearing them. Yes, they look VERY uncomfortable, but, to tell you the truth, they are very comfy! In volleyball, you must be on your toes all the time, and Spandex makes it easy to run after the ball before it touches the ground.

I know what you're saying but, I see most REALLY GOOD volleyball players wearing them and they make you look really professional. All the club volleyball players wear them too and, they are really easy to move around in even though sometimes you do get wedgies.Plus, if u have to pick a wedgie during a game when wearing them,DO IT! I see girls doing it all the time when wearing them so don't be embarrassed!Well, HoPe u fIgUrE Out Ur SpaNdEx PrObLeMs!

I coach and teach at the Junior High level and I have a daughter this age who plays volleyball so I may have a different perspective.  I will admit that I am from the midwest and have old fashioned and conservitive values.

As a male I cannot speak to the comfort factor and as someone who has never played seriously I cannot speak to the functionality.  From a modesty standpoint, both have their positives and negatives.  Since the spandex are form fitting, they do not leave much to the imagination, but the loose gym shorts can be far more revealing when a player dives and rolls.  My favorite combination is when a player wears the spandex shorts with a comfortable pair of shorts over them.  This allows for the freedom of movement, but also protects their modesty.

their awesome their so comfy..u cant see up them when u fall..u dont have to worry about them goin over top of ur knee pads..they dont itch...the wedgies go away u get used to em

Spandex is a great thing for the sport of volleyball. When diving for a ball, people could easily see up gym shorts, and the floor burns won't happen near as much with spandex because the material doesn't really move. Plus, what a great reason to not wear underwear and a great way to get guys!

I  Play for a club team and i have to wear spandex. First they are actually really comfortable. They also help you slide betterbecause they are smoothe. Basketball shorts wouldn't work either because they are too baggy and long. After a while you get used to them besides if you have good legs and a butt then you shoudn't care

Yeah, theres no need in lying. They are not comfortable, but if you want to play, you have to get over it. The worst thing about them is that volley ball shorts ar spandex and polyester/cotton blend, where as regular spandex are just cotton. They are not comfy at all!

i think that spandex is good for one reason only and that is when you fall down people can't see up your pants. i also heard that wearing a thong or no underwear can help. i dont know if that is true because i havent tried it. but after wearing spandex for a while i got used to all the wedgies.

You feel like you can stretch and jump as high as the sky. if you get a pair that is short they don't give you wedgies. Fabric doesn't get up your butt. They're not a thong. That would be gross.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really love wearing spandex they are really comfortable once you get used to them and I have had to wear them since I was in 6th grade for club and know I am in highschool.

you really should try them. They don't go up your butt and are really comfortable. They are much easier to move in and they make your butt look great no matter what shape it's in.

the spandex isn't that bad it is actually really good in volleyball because when you wear basketball shorts they interfere with your knee pads and it totally sucks and shorter shorts are good but spandex is best because people can't see up your pants when you fall or somthing and spandex moves with you so you can get in you ready position faster nad yuo can et lower it is really good for volleball. i kow it feels weird at first but you get usd to it.

I just started this summer program for volleyball to help me practice for the try outs, and I saw all the other girls wearing the spandex. They don't look very comfortable, so I'm trying to put them off as long as possible. lol

actually spandex is really comfy. they are easy to play in and they dont ride up your butt if you get the right size.
