SPI Digital Audio Player turns on temporarily

Question

I just got this thing and the first day I listened for like 2 hours until it went dead. I charged it up on my computer and now when I turn it on to listen, it only stays on for like literally 1 minute and goes dead because it is saying the battery is low. And sometimes when I take it off the charger, it doesn't even turn on at all. Did I ruin something by allowing it to go dead or what? I have only fully used it one time and it is brand new.
