SR-22 Insurance?

Can someone please tell me the process? I got pulled over in May for DUI and I was told I had to get Sr-22 insurance. I have a brand new Mercedes Benz (CLK 350) and I am 23 years old. The title of the car is in my name and my moms name. Is there any way for me to get around this without her knowing? She will kill me!! Is there a way to take my name of title and just get the non owners SR-22 insurance? All of this is so confusing and i'm scared. Any experts out there?

  1. Sr 22 Insurance is just Auto Insurance with an SR22 filing. The officer meant.  You need an sr22 filing. Your auto Insurer is the only provider of the SR22 Form.

If you can't get coverage under your parents auto insurance policy any longer then it's just time to buy your own policy.

An SR22 Filing means your drivers license is suspended or has a suspension pending.

Just contact some insurers locally or look online for insurers doing business in your area or state. Yahoo Local Search is a good start.

  2. ok- I am assuming you are in the state of California so I will answer the question as if you were ( It sounds like you are.) If you did get pulled over for a dui you will need to file an sr22. The first thing that you will want to do if you are the named insured is to contact your current insurer and ask them to "endorse" the sr22 filing onto your current policy. If the company does not file sr22s, you will need to shop for another insurance company, which is pretty easy to do. You can insure the vehicle with the new company and add your mother onto the policy as an additional driver and that will take care of her not finding out about it. You can also get a non owners sr22 filing however it will not cover you for any vehicle registered in your name, provided for your regular use, registered in your household, or used during the course of employment, pretty flimsy coverage, bu it does meet the requirement to getting your license reinstated at the dmv. Purchasing an sr22 filing is pretty easy to do though. I hope this helps you

  3. Don't worry, get your own insurance and shop for a good insurance company. Look for the one that begins with a "Prog", there rates with DUI and SR-22 is most likely going to tbe the cheap and best company for you.

Make sure you cover your mom as a driver because she is also an owner of the car.

SR=22--Insurance company tell DMV when you do and do not have insurance,  the won't tell your mom.
