SSP Chowrasia and Thongchai Jaidee confirm participation in Maybank Malaysian Open
Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia and Thongchai Jaidee confirmed their appearance at the Maybank Malaysian Open 2011 which will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club from 14 – 17 April.
Chowrasia who hails from India earned the tour card in February 2011, when he won the Avantha Masters that was sponsored by Asian Tour, European Tour, and the Professional Golf Tour of India.
The 32-year-old, who lifted the Indian Masters trophy in 2008 after he defeated PGA Grand Slam winner Ernie Els in a playoff, said that he was aiming for another superb finish. He added that he reckoned the amount of competition he was going to face in Kuala
Lumpur.
The Indian is scheduled to face world number one Martin Kaymer, world number eight Rory McIlroy, conqueror of St Andrews Louis Oosthuizen and the winner of Joburg Open Charl Schwartzel. He will also face the defending champion Noh Seung-yul in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Jaidee, who has won the event in 2004 and 2005 when it was called Carlsberg Malaysian Open, said that he was looking forward to completing his hat-trick at the event.
The 41-year-old told the press that he was ready to settle score on the course where he finished runner up in 2006. If Jaidee wins the title, he will enhance his winning streak to 14, as he has won 13 titles on the Asian Tour. His last win was the Johnnie
Walker Cambodian Open trophy in 2010.
However, he has never won on the European soil and disclosed his intentions of conquering a course in Europe. Since the 2011 event will take place in Asia, Jaidee will not be successful in fulfilling his dreams. However, he has chances of putting up a challenge
in the Race to Dubai as the event is carrying points that will increase his title chances.
156 players have been confirmed for the Maybank Malaysian Open, which will kick off in April right after the Masters. The top ranked players of the world are expected to compete for the prize and with Jaidee and Chowrasia’s presence, the battle is going
to get tougher.
