SSP Chowrasia ready to defend the Avantha Masters title despite a wrist injury - Golf News
The Indian professional golfer, SSP Chowrasia, who was getting ready to defend his title in the Avantha Masters, suffered a wrist injury prior to the tournament that starts on Thursday, February 16, 2012.
While practicing on the DLF Golf and Country Club on Wednesday, he disclosed that he was experiencing a severe pain in his left wrist.
Therefore, he left the course in order to recover until the tournament officially begins.
He also consulted his injury issue with a physiotherapist and said that he was hopeful to recover soon.
Moreover, he also made a slight change in his swing because of the injury which, according to him, was not a big thing to consider.
Apart from the injury issue and his last year’s poor form, he is still looking confident and enthusiastic to register his third win on the European Tour.
He is hopeful to become the first Indian to defend a European Tour title successfully. “I am more confident this year after working on my game,” Chowrasia told reporters.
He continued, “Apart from the Avantha triumph, I had a poor year. This season, I am into my fifth tournament and I am pretty happy with my form. The green is hard and there is less rough, it is also a grainy course this year. I feel Indians and Asians will
do well this year”.
Jeev Milkha Singh, Shiv Kapur and Rahil Gangjee are other Indian professional players to participate in the prestigious event to be held in India.
“It is the third year in a row we have had a European Tour event in India, which is fantastic. The DLF is a great golf course, and, of course, it’s always a treat to play in front of your home crowds,” Jeev said.
According to the golf experts, the grainy greens will definitely help Indians and Asians to register low scores in the tournament as compared to the visitors from other parts of the world.
In Europe, the players usually find bent grass on the field, which they are used to play on.
However, the conditions at DLF Golf and Country Club are completely different and are in favour of the local players.
