SSP Chowrasia shines at the Iskandar Johor Open
SSP Chowrasia of India carded a three-under par 69, to take the share of the second position, midway through the second round of the Iskandar Johor Open, on Saturday, December 15, 2012.
The US$2 million event is being played at the Horizon Golf and Country Club, featuring a strong line-up, including the likes of the Thai legends, Thaworn Wiratchant and Thongchai Jaidee, and the Ryder Cup star Sergio Garcia.
The delayed second round was about to finish, when a total of 23 players had to return to the clubhouse, after the inclement weather forced the game to be suspended.
Chowrasia, in the meantime, managed to complete his 36 holes, which bought him some time to take rest, prior to the start of the third round.
On day one, the Indian star fired eight birdies, while losing three shots, to post a decent five-under par 67. He then kept the momentum going into the second round, and added another three shots to his scorecard, without conceding a single bogey.
At the end of his second-round campaign, he found himself settled two strokes behind the clubhouse leader Daniel Chopra, who posted a 10-under par halfway score.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he said that he was having troubles finding the form with his driver, for the past few months.
Therefore, he worked with his swing coach and brought some improvements in his overall swing technique. According to him, that was the main reason behind his decent performance in the first two rounds.
“I played very good because I was bogey free. I missed a few putts but I’m still happy with how I’m playing. I was struggling with my swing and putting previously but I think I’m back on track. I worked a bit on my swing and putting and now it is better,”
he said.
He added, “I feel very good. Let’s see. I’ve been playing good and my confidence is slowly growing. The last hole was quite good. I hit my tee shot a little bit left. I hit a good third shot but the wind carried it slightly further before making a two putt
par”.
