STP extends partnership with NASCAR once again – NASCAR news
1972 marked the first agreement signed between STP and Richard Petty, which changed the meaning of sponsorship in the autoracing world.
After 39 years of racing, history STP is coming back to regain its mark in the autoracing.
The brand is coming back to any motorsports after 11 years’ absence, and is focused to sponsor the local tracks. The STP brand was first used in early 70’s, when they sponsored the NASCAR legend Richard Petty and started showing up on his No. 43 car.
The STP racing portfolio consists of several years being the sponsor of the Nationwide and Sprint Cup races at Chicagoland Speedway and Kansas Speedway in June. The STP will now make its return on the track with A.J. Allmendinger piloting at the STP
400. This new version of No. 43 on the latest Ford Fusion will be an exact replica of the original 1972 racecar carrying Petty Blue and STP Day-Glo Red.
It has also been the primary sponsor of the two-time champion of NHRA Full Throttle Nitro Funny Car, Tony Pedregon for three races at Las Vegas, Houston and Infineon. The STP brand has also sponsored about seven tracks of the multi-track owner ISC
including Daytona, Talladega, Richmond, Darlington, Michigan, Chicagoland and Kansas.
It has also marked its name in drag racing by a multi-year sponsorship with the track Infineon Raceway, Wednesday Night Drag and Bracket Drags. It is also continuing the sponsorship of Tony Stewart and four-time champion of World of Outlaws Donny Schatz
and the full series World of Outlaws.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have an iconic brand like STP as the title sponsor of our June Nationwide Series race,” said Scott Paddock, The President of Chicagoland Speedway. “The STP 300 is the kick-off to the racing season at Chicagoland Speedway,
and with the widening of seats and the admissions of coolers.”
The deal has been formally signed on Wednesday for the title sponsorship between Armound AutoGroup Inc. and International Speedway Corporation (ISC). They are now in a multi-year contract for the title deal of Nationwide Series event. The brand is
not only limited to the Nationwide Series, but they are also sponsoring the Cup Series June 5 event at the Kansas Speedway.
“Just like the teams, drivers and tracks that we are sponsoring, the STP brand stands for quality and performance,” said Guy Andrysick, the EVP of Sales and Marketing of Armored AutoGroup. “So as we look to grow the STP brand in a competitive marketplace
and create new and exciting activation opportunities for our retail partners, a renewed presence in motorsports is an important part of our strategy.”
