Both are Carrier based. Both are fully armed. Both pilots are aces. Both planes are full of fuel. So who will win?

  1. The Russians do not have aircraft carriers in the same league as the US's so have to fly lighter aircraft (less fuel) so the hornet wins on combat radius. Overall not much is known on Russian air-2-air missiles but generally the US will have more up to date technology and more money so their pilots spend more time in the air training. Overall F18 Hornet wins.

  2. it depends what they are armored up with, with the right missile either one could win or both be killed. they most experinced has a better chance but with our wepons technology it's hard to say.

  3. Heh.. CУ-33 is carriers fighter.. hornet is a carriers fighter-bomber/ flanker is more heavy in all param. (weight, weapon, radius, speed, max fly height, engine power) .  Rus pilot are win in short distanse battle,in large battle (there battle were by missile) probably both are catapulted..

  4. With everything being equal it would be close one to call.  The SU-33 has greater range and can hold more ordinance.  It also carries the R-27R1 air to air missle with a range about double the AIM-120 AMRAAM normally carried by the F/A-18.  Despite that, I would expect the Hornet to come out ahead in the confrontation due to its superior avionics and targeting radar system.  This doesn't include the increased capabilities of the Super Hornet.

  5. Here's a definitive answer from a AF veteran who comes from a large family of many military flyers.

The US has the best trained pilots in the world, excepting perhaps only the last generation of Israeli ADF flyers.  Russian pilots aren't as good and neither are their planes.  We have lots and lots more combat experience than they do in Generation 4 and 5 fighters. We have had remarkable kill ratios against Soviet aircraft and pilots in every war for the last 60 years.  Even in Korea, where the Mig was actually a bit superior to the Sabre overall.  BUT, the superior tactics and mentality of our pilots enabled them to achieve victory at astounding rates.  And that was true in every war fought by ANY nation using our equipment and our training methods.  If it were me, I'd much rather be sitting in the back of the F-18.  And, I'd much rather be wearing a parachute in the back of the Flanker.
