Question:

SUNY Delhi students and dorms?

This is a very specific question so I hope I get a couple opinions. I want to go away for college (I’m currently in my first year getting my pre-recs). Next year I plan on transferring from SUNY Sullivan county (where I commute to) to SUNY Delhi (where I would stay on campus). Now my question is about Delhi, how is the campus? How are the students? How is the faculty? How are the facilities?

Thank you for any information.

  1. Hi Brandon!  My name is Jennifer and I am currently a student at SUNY Delhi.  This will be my 3rd year.  My first two years I have lived on campus and this year I'm living off.  I really loved staying on campus in the dorms.  Now I was in a building that was specific for my major so everyone on my floor was studying for the same classes I was.  There is only one dorm like that and that is for Vet Sci and Nursing students.  One thing that I would suggest to do is to get as involved on campus in the activities and clubs as possible.  There really isn't a lot of things to do in town on your spare time so being involved in a club or other activities helps to fill that time.  I've met so many new people doing this and have learned so much about the school that I didn't know.  I currently am a Student Ambassador, which means I work with the prospective students who are looking to come here.  We give them tours of the campus and talk to them about the things to do and stuff just like I'm telling you.  All of the ambassadors agree that if you don't get involved on campus, you will hate it here.  There are clubs for everyone and anything, if there isn't something you like you can start your own...like the Grilling Society that was started 2 yrs ago.  The faculty is amazing!  They get to know you personally.  The teacher to student ratio is 19:1.  I know that in my major I know every teacher that I've ever had and not just know them as in I can pick them out in a crowd and they know my name but most of my teachers know what I want to do when I'm done with school, some of my personal life.  It's an awesome experience to talk to someone who might have a different point of view about something that you have never thought of.  Now what do you mean by facilities? Do you mean the dorms or the buildings where the classes are?  Well I'm just gonna answer both.  The dorms are all up to date and very nice.  They are all wireless and every one has their own lounge which includes vending machines, pool table, tv and couches.  Some lounges might have more or less depending on the RD and how much they want to put in there.  Every dorm has an RD which is a resident director who lives in the building.  It is their job to make sure everything stays in order in their building.  Get to know them - I loved both my RD's.  Along with RD's, there are RA's which are resident assistants.  They are there to help you and to help the RD.  They are kind of like a supervisor to make sure nothing gets out of hand.  Every dorm does have laundry facilites and they are free!  As for the facilites where there are classroom...they all are very nice and up to date.  Most classes rooms have some sort of technology like a computer to show power points and other fancy things that I dont know the name of but they're pretty cool.  I have been to one other college before this and would say that Delhi has been the best experience for me so far.  Just make the most of your time here and get involved!
