  1. Tips to train.

    1. Swim.

    2. Push ups because you are going to need to be able to push your self up.

    3. Practice laying on the ground and popping straight to your feet.

    4. Squats because you will be using your legs for power

    5. Core exercises (sit ups, crunches, etc.) most of your power come from your legs and core for hacks, slashes, turns, etc.

    Hope that answers your question.

  2. Since you have asked the same question three times, in three different ways, I suspect that you don't surf. Surfing is an ocean sport. You have to be at home in the ocean, with it's currents, tides, rips undertows and BIG waves. I have seen lots of good pool swimmers get rescued.

So, after you do some ocean swimming, and body surfing, and maybe some boogie boarding, go to a real surf shop. Folks there will help you hook up with lessons (and the appropriate rental board to go along with it).

If you just want to get a board and go in the water, be prepared to make enemies, not friends. Learn surf etiquette, it is VERY important. Take the time to learn what you are doing, and you can have joy for life. I have surfed for 42 years, and will continue to do so, as long as I can.

  3. cool...what part of cali are you going to be surfing? well for starters like yourself go with a longboard i sure you want to start shreding but it dosnt work that way...for the most part..a 6'6 is too big for this small surf in cali and wont work all to great, i would buy a used board nothing over 200 bucks. as far as workouts...pushups you'll need that for lifting yourself up off the board, and swimming...you need to work your arms for paddleing and being able to swimn strong for long periods of time
