Hi, i'm buying my first surfboard and i was wondering if a fish or a longboard would be best. I skate, snowboard, and skim-board so im pretty good with boards. I want a board that will last me when i get better, so something thats transitional. I'm about 6'0" and 150 lbs. What would you recommend for a board??

  1. yes

  2. one that keeps you ontop of the water...

  3. Have you surfed before?  If not, I think a fish would be really hard to learn on.  I'd suggest a longboard.  I'm not sure of your skills but if you want a beginner board, the Bic Sports are cheap and are great to learn on.

  4. the longer the easier to use, it also depends on what size of waves you will surf.

  5. i like the style of long boards.

RipCurl and Roxy are good ones.

  6. I skate, snowboard too. But surfing is a different animal. Having board balance helps, but surfing has it's own catch.

I'm 5'8 and 150 and I have a 6'0 board. I don't recomend a short board for begginers. I wish I would have had a longer board to start out with.

Try maybe a shorter long-board to start with.

It also depends where you live and how big the waves are. Here in Fl, the waves tend to be good on special ocassions, but not too often, so a long board is better cause you can catch anything, if the waves are big, a shorter board will do.

    It's all about preference, skill & $.

I would go for a longer one. Maybe go to a surfshop and buy a used one in good shape, it will be about 3 times cheper.
