I have a TV and a DVD hooked up. My surround sound is hooked up to the DVD player, and the DVD player is hooked up to the TV. The surround sound will only work when DVDs are playing. How can I get the surround sound to work with the TV too?

  1. The best thing to do is to connect your surround to your TV when you are not using your DVD player. This will make your surround sound to work.

  2. You need to hook the audio out from the back of the TV to the HT receiver's TV audio input.

The DVD player should also feed it's audio and video into the HT receiver, and then the receiver would have one audio and video feed to the TV.

  3. They are right.  You need another audio cable going from your tv to the surround sound receiver.  However, if you have High Definition and a compatible receiver you will most likely want to use an optical cable for the audio so you can listen to HD content in surround sound also.  If not, then the regular red and white rca calbes will do just fine.  With those you can only listen to stereo sound though or simulated surround sound.
