  1. They are cosmetic and the return for the investment is zilch.

  2. im not sure what that is and i think

    i just eletricuted my tongue..

  3. I would be thrilled!!!! That would be awesome.

  4. Well I probably would be especially if it's near my house. It'll probably bring the price of the land nearby way down and it would just be so big and ugly to look at. It wouldn't be cheap either.

  5. Of course I would support them. Each one in a step in the right direction towards Local, Decentralized, renewable energy for the masses.

  6. They've just built five in a field near here and they look beautiful at different times of the day but I think they're just a cosmetic feature in the impending energy scenario. They'd have to build hundreds to really make a difference and that would ruin the landscape in many different ways (aesthetic, ecological, etc.)

  7. Yes - though I do think more environmental impact research needs to be done.  Would it interfere with the migration of birds or aquatic mammals (off shore rigs). The visual impact for me would not be negative.

  8. For it -  as long as they're efficient in the long run. Just think of the turbines as sculptures.

Killing birds. Big deal. They'll learn to avoid it. The dumb and the slow will be eliminated, strengthening the bird population.

    That's evolution - that's life - that's nature - that's God in action.

  9. I have seen a few and I think they are a good idea.

  10. First off, wind turbines are NOT wind mills.  Wind turbines produce power.  Wind mills have big stones and gears that grind grains, or they pump water.  Wind mills do NOT produce electricity.

I would support wind turbines.  I would support them being built on my very farm, the required safe distance from my house.

I do not find them ugly (and I detest industry).  Modern turbines do NOT kill birds and bats.

Why am I for them?  Because they are a completely renewable energy.  Even the very towers themselves, when they have reached the end of their lifespan are almost entirely recyclable.

They promote a thriving habitat for wildlife.  They keep suburban sprawl at bay.  They have high paying jobs in areas of traditional low pay.  They help support local businesses, with thousands (even hundreds of thousands) of extra dollars (snow removal, radio rentals, weed control, mowing, road maintenance, fencing, ect).  Last but not least, they provide a completely clean source of energy.

P.S.  For the person who said they return zilch, they are dead wrong.  A wind turbine averages a cost of one million U.S. dollars per megawatt.  It costs another half a million per turbine to erect them.  Wind turbines pay their purchase, construction, and maintenance costs off in 3-8 years, with the average being 5 years.  Wind turbines have proven over and over again that they do indeed pay for themselves, and return possitive cash flow, and green energy.  What's not to like about them?
