SUV/Light Truck Tires or Passenger Tires?

I have a 96 cherokee and the size of tires is P225/75R15. It doesn't snow where I live and I just drive my car on highway and don't put any load on it whatsoever. My question is: Can I get Passenger tires that are the same size as SUV/Light Truck tires but way cheaper? What is the deal with that, since both have the same characteristics (Load and Speed Index), Please help. Thanks

  1. go to tirerack.com   or discount tire.com    put in car/make/year and see all the great deals... best to get truck tires for a truck.duh

  2. yes.

  3. yes you can.  the tires on your car are passenger tires.

in the tire size, P225/75R15  the P stands for Passenger.  if they were truck tires they'd start LT for Light Truck.

the other numbers are the width in millimeters, the sidewall as a percentage of the width, the R is for Radial and the 15 is for rim size in inches.
