SWIMMMERS!?!?! Help?

I Have a hip injury and my doctor said i could swim. I was wondering which swim stroke helps increase your metabollism, and build muscle , and burns calories the most?

  1. I'd start with freestyle and backstroke to bulid muscle and then add breatsroke and Butterfly.  All build muscle but free and back do it the most and the fastest compared to the other 2.  and the other two you have to HAVE some muscle in order to swim them and not kill yourself in the process.


  2. Butterfly, and breaststroke, burn a lot of calories, but they are also strokes that are very hard to swim. Freestyle and backstroke are probably the best strokes to start with so you can begin to build muscle.

  3. Any stroke done correctly and efficiently at a moderate to fast pace over a period of time will accomplish both but most recreational lap swimmers stick with freestyle (also called the crawl stroke) because it is the easiest to learn and to swim.  You should also check with your doctor to make sure there aren't any restrictions on the way you can move your hip.  That could affect your choice of stroke.
