Saadiyat Beach Golf Club hosts charity event for Japan disaster relief fund
Saadiyat Beach Golf Club of the United Arab Emirates, held a charity match “Beat the Pro Challenge” with proceeds of the match going directly to the Embassy of Japan for the earthquake relief and rehabilitation work.
The event was co-sponsored by two of the renowned corporate giants of the UAE the Torishima Services Solutions FZCO and The Millennium Hotel Abu Dhabi. World’s largest golf management company Troon Golf, also came out to support the event and went an extra
mile to gather support from different corporate circles in the UAE.
"We called on corporations and the golfing community across the UAE, to come out and support what was a fun tournament with a very serious objective," said Ray Manulat, General Manager of Saadiyat Beach Golf Club. "And that was to raise
funds and support those who continue to suffer as a result of this catastrophic natural disaster."
Japan was struck with one of most destructive earthquake ever recorded in the history on March 11th. Measuring 9 on the Richter scale, the disaster left as many as 13,000 people dead and missing. The resulting Tsunamis afterwards, played havoc
with the northern and north eastern coasts of the country with the damage and rehabilitation work estimated to top several billion dollars.
100 players from across the UAE participated in the event where the golfers who managed to reach closest to the pros on the greens winning a prize. Saadiyat Beach Golf Club’s Wayne Munro let many of the guests beat him to win different prizes, in view of
involving player’s interest in the event.
The Leaders Insurance Team won the event with 108 points. The team members included David Stolzenberg, Richard Harris, Daniel Le Moeligou, and Jonathan Cowie. The German Marine Consultation Office was the runners up of the event with their team comprising
of Kurt Johann, Horst Lucking, Rolf Becker and Jan Schermeier.
Saadiyat Beach Golf Club is one of the most unique and captivating courses in the UAE having the first and only ocean courses in the country. The course is designed by the celebrated golfing legend Gary Player and Co.
The opening nine holes weave through the scenic coast line culminating at a gigantic five star hotel, still waiting to be inaugurated. Almost one-third of the course is lined alongside the coast line of crystal waters and white sandy beaches.
The luxurious clubhouse not only offers world class amenities to the guests but also incorporates golf academy and practice facilities. The club is managed by “Troon Golf” which was also the title sponsor of the event. The company is one of the largest in
golf business and manages courses in 26 countries around the world including the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, UAE, Turnberry Resort, Scotland and The Grove, London.
The participants of the event later enjoyed delicious Japanese cuisine of fresh Sushi buffet and famous Japanese beverages at the club’s Hawksbill Restaurant followed by a prize distribution ceremony.
