Sabine Lisicki, Agnieszka Radwanska successful in the first round – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Sabine Lisicki continued her impressive run on the green surface as she made quick work of Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia 6-1, 6-1 on Wednesday to book her place in the second round of 2011 Wimbledon Tennis Championships. The German
tennis-pro made an aggressive start taking the opening set in a blink of an eye. She displayed some high quality tennis in the second set as well to ensure her straight sets victory.
Breaking her opponent’s serve three times in the opener, Lisicki took complete control of the match. With eleven winners and six serve aces, she was able to hit her way out of the trouble whenever it was required. Sevastova committed
a number of unforced errors in the set and she allowed the German to dictate terms. Despite hitting only 53 per cent of her first serves, Lisicki claimed more than 75 per cent of the points on her serve.
The second set also followed a very similar trend with Lisicki dominating almost all aspects of the game. Using her powerful forehand and backhand shots, she hit 11 winners in the set. Sevastova on the other hand lacked the firepower
in certain areas of the game and she also struggled to handle Lisicki’s powerful serve.
Dashing a big forehand winner down the line, Lisicki set up two match points for her and then converted the first one to end the contest that lasted for only 45 minutes.
Securing her first grass court title of the season at WTA AEGON Classic just a few days back, Lisicki looked in commanding form in her first round match at the Championships. Although she had a low first serve conversion in the
match, she was able to make up for it with her strong ground strokes.
"I lost the first seven points of the match, but from then on I played very well and served solid. I did the things I had to," Lisicki said. "I'm coming off a title, and I feel very good. I'm just happy to be back and I'm enjoying
every minute of it."
Number 13 seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland also cruised into the second round with a superb 6-0, 3-0 victory over Belarusian Olga Govortsova.
Radwanska tennis-pro made an aggressive start to the match as she broke the serve in the very first game of the opening set. Securing six straight games, she took the set score lead 1-0.
The Polish opened the second set on a similar note as well as she raced to 3-0 lead. Govortsova, who looked a bit out of sorts throughout the match, decided to retire after she suffered from a muscle injury.
