Sabine Lisicki acquires an effortless victory over Alberta Brianti in 2ndround – Texas Open 2011
21-year-old German, Sabine Lisicki beat Alberta Brianti in the second round of the Texas Open 2011 to secure a berth in the third round. The two were contesting for the second time on hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine,
Texas. Lisicki was easily able to defeat her Italian rival with a straight set victory of a bread stick 6-2 in just 52 minutes.
The two were meeting for the second time prior to this event and the last they met was at the Australian open during the second round, where Brianti was successive over her German opponent and had taken the lead of 1-0 in the head-to-head.
To the mercy of the Higher Power, fate made their paths cross again and this time, they were meeting on the hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas.
Opening with confidence was Lisicki as she had won most of her games on her own serve and had a flamboyant 77% win of her total service points against Brianti, who had mustered a pitiable 23% win of her total return points.
Both the players had struck a double fault each but Lisicki was feeling lucky and was able to smash one fewer double fault than her opponent.
Lisicki’s defence, which was as strong as an ox, did not let her adversary take a single break point chance and instead broke her opponent twice, capitalizing on 100% of her break points won. While Brianti’s defence failed her
and she was unable to save any.
The big serving German was not only winning games on her serves but was also able to win an exceptional 61% win in her total return points, against the Italian who was only able to attain a 39% win of her total serves in the opening
the set.
By accomplishing a total of 70% of her total set points the German won the set, while her adversary could only muster a 30% of her total set points.
The 31 year-old (Brianti) had taken a severe beating in the first set and it gave her a mental block.
During the second set, the 31-year old Italian was unable to bounce back on her feet after taking the beating in the first and instead; she nosedived in her serves winning only 38% of the total service points, along with a poorer
return that enabled her to win 33% of her total return points.
Mean while, Lisicki had an exceptional serve and return serve, winning 62% and 625 respectively and thus, by gaining an edge as she was able to break her opponent twice. She accomplished to name the set by achieving a total set
score of 64% win, making it twice as many points as her adversary’s.
