Sabine Lisicki and Samantha Stosur advances to semis in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix Doubles
Wild card entrants, German Sabine Lisicki and Australian Samantha Stosur, trashed Germans Julia Goerges and Andrea Petkovic to advance to the semi-finals of the 2011 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix on Thursday.
Wild cards, Lisicki and Stosur triumphed over German wild cards Julia Schruff and Scarlett Werner with a breadstick in their opening match to reach this spot. They then dumped Gorges and Petkovic in 68 minutes to book a semi-final
spot at Porsche Arena. Stosur is fifth seed in the singles event at this tournament and has advance to semi-finals.
In the opening set, the winning combination of Lisicki and Stosur earned an assuring 60 percent win on their slightly lower first serve share and clobbered zero double faults. Though they lost their serve once, the German Australian
duo converted all three breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to win the set with a 6-3 score-line.
They carried their winning ways into the second set and held their opening serve plausibly. Later Lisicki and Stosur exchanged three breaks and produced a higher first serve share of 72 percent. They saved five out of eight breakpoints
they faced and broke their rivals’ serves again in the end to seal the set with a 6-4 win.
The German tandem on the other side of net, earned a walkover victory against second seeds, Polish Agnieszka Radwanska and Slovak Daniela Hantuchova to reach this spot. Despite their good form and high confidence level, Gorges
and Petkovic could not stand against the top form Lisicki and Stosur. The Germans committed several unfored errors, clobbered two double faults and had poor co-ordination amongst them. Though they converted four out of ten breakpoint opportunities to their
advantage but they saved only three out of ten breakpoints they faced.
Lisicki and Stosur will next face Russian Ukrainian pair of Vitalia Diatchenko and Mariya Koryttseva who overpowered Fin German combination of Emma Laine and Laura Siegemund with a bagel. Diatchenko and Koryttseva converted seven
out of nine breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to clinch the match with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory in just fifty-seven minutes.
Although luck did not favour Goerges and Petkovic, a German team did advance to the semis after upsetting top seeds, American Liezel Huber and Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez. The German tandem of Kristina Barrois and Jasmin
Woehr earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the seeds in seventy-three minutes on Wednesday. Barrois and Woehr had perfect co-ordination throughout the match and converted four out of five breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to seal the match with a straight
set victory.
