Sabine Lisicki plans to gather confidence at the Brisbane International 2013 – Tennis News
2011 WTA season witnessed Sabine Lisicki reaching the heights of world tennis by breaking in to the Top-20 category starting from out of Top-200. It was expected that the German diva will back-up the terrific year with another
mind-startling performances. However, the 23-year-old German was surrounded by niggling injuries and only managed to register a record of 17-21 which was nothing compared to the last year’s stat of 49-19.
It will be the maiden appearance of Lisicki in the Brisbane International next year. She hasn’t contested in this tournament before because she signed up for the ASB Classic in Auckland as the season-opener this year. She was the
top seed contestant in Auckland but managed to secure just to victims before falling out to the compatriot Angelique Kerber who is now ranked fifth in the world. She performed well in the Australian Open and reached the fourth round before being hammered by
the former world number one, Maria Sharapova.
Lisicki had a relatively better start but couldn’t manage to carry the expectations of her fans as her downfall commenced after the end of January. She lost in the opening round of the Qatar Ladies Open, survived just one match
at the Dubai Duty Free Championships and lost in the first contest at the BNP Paribas Open. She did well to recover in the Sony Ericsson Open by securing three victories and carried the momentum into the Family Circle Cup but the severe ankle injury forced
her out of the competition in the quarter-final round. She left the Charleston arena in tears and it was painful to witness the German star reduced to cries.
The 37th ranked German failed to win a single battle in Italian Open, Internationaux de Strasbourg, French Open and AEGON Classic. However, she troubled a lot of players in the Wimbledon at London; trounced Maria Sharapova
on her way to the quarter-finals. It was the only time she looked to be in some sort of rhythm. However, the form was short lived as Lisicki failed to register any victories in Rogers Cup, US Open and Toray Pan Pacific Open. Moreover, the ending of the year
witnessed her with just one victory from four matches so she desperately requires a hefty start at Brisbane that will help her regain some confidence.
