Sabine Lisicki powers down Petra Martic in the first clash – Wimbledon Championships 2012s
World number 15, Sabine Lisicki, finally hits form at the Wimbledon opener  against the 45th ranked Croatian starlet, Petra Martic, on Monday. Out of last six encounters, this was her first triumph and it came at the
right time; she dumped the 21-year-old Croatian in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
Lisicki was struggling at the start of the match; lost the opening serve game and went down 2-0 after a comprehensive serve hold from the Croatian. However, the 22-year-old German fought back into the contest winning two breakpoints
on the trot and taking a lead of 4-2.
It was a classic turnaround in the proceedings that pumped life in the crowd. The German superstar bagged another serve hold to push the scores to 5-3 and with a swap of breakpoints in the following two games; Lisicki capped the
comeback with a set lead.
It was a must win match for the German who had faced a lot of injury problems lately. She was ousted in the first round of Charleston, Rome, Strasbourg, French Open and AEGON Classic in the past three months. So, she needed to
build some sort of momentum and get back to her prime for with a win over the Croatian.
An aggressive start to the second set witnessed an early breakthrough for the German who went on to take an unassailable lead of 3-0 at the start. It was a dream start for the 15th ranked German who has struggled massively
throughout the season.
Martic just managed a couple of serve holds in the match. It was expected that she will upset Lisicki considering her recent run of play. She has stunned superior ranked opponents on several occurrences including the number one
Frenchwoman, Marion Bartoli and the Spanish top woman, Anabel Medina Garrigues.
Lisicki will contest her next match against the winner of the clash between the Grecian number one, Eleni Daniilidou, and the Serb starlet, Bojana Jovanovski. The 15th seed German superstar is expected to lose early
in the tournament despite her successful first round clash. She is up against in-form players who have performed consistently and deserves to reach the advanced stages of the tournament.
