Sabine Lisicki tires down Krumm Date-Krumm in the 2nd round
– Mercury Open 2011
Sabine Lisicki and Krumm Date-Krumm were meeting for the third time on the hard courts of the La Costa Resort and Spa, at the Mercury Open 2011. The 21-year-old (Lisicki) won with 6-1, 6-2 victory over the 40-year-old (Krumm) in
simply 57 minutes and 25 seconds.
In the first set of the match Lisicki smashed two aces and zero double faults. While, Krumm had struck two double faults that hit the net. Serving first Lisicki had won hundred percent of her first serves, along with, a return
serve which re-coiled everything that came its way, she won seventy one percent of her second return points and hence, Lisicki gained an edge.
The German’s (Lisicki) defence was very strong and she broke her opponent three times on her own serve and did not allow her opponent a single break point opportunity. Mean while her opponent was only able to save two out of the
five break points and was not able to win any break points.
Krumm had a very poor return serve and only attained twenty percent of her total return points of the set, along with, winning forty three percent of her total service points. When all was said and done, Lisicki was a better player
and had won almost twice as more points than her opponents in the total set points.
The second set saw the 40-year-old (Krumm) jump right back into the game and although she tried she wasn’t successful. This time she performed comparatively better in her return serve than the first set, however her serve had pummelled
and she was only able to win 33% of her total service points. She was not able to strike an ace but had improved on her accuracy, striking only one line fault.
Mean while, for a moment Lisicki had lost control of her accuracy and struck one double fault that hit the net but regained her control and smashed an ace.
Lisicki was able to hit fifty nine percent of the first serve on target and won by almost twice as many points in all the set scores.
Across the Board; she had 64% of her total service points, along with, 67% of her total return points. Although, this time Lisicki was not able to save the only break point on her serve, she was able to break her opponent 3 of
the 4 times.
On the contrary, Krumm saved only one break point and also won one break point. The crowd still cheered for the 40-year-old and appreciated her performance even tough she lost the set.
Both the players had performed to their utmost however, due to Lisicki’s agility, stamina, and defence she won the match in straight sets. She will now be facing the American Coco Vandeweghe in the third round.
