Sabine Lisicki toughens up for Wimbledon campaign – Tennis Special
World number 15, Sabine Lisicki, laboured past 117th ranked Serb, Bojana Jovanovski, in the second round of Wimbledon Championships on Wednesday. It was a thrilling three-setter witnessing an early set loss to Lisicki
3-6 but recorded a supreme turnaround in the second set scoring 6-2 and then a gruelling final battle of 14 games fell 8-6 in favour of the German 15th seed.
The 20-year-old Serb was playing her maiden contest against the German starlet but the recent injuries that Lisicki has gone through made it a pretty levelled contest on paper. Crowd expected an enthralling encounter and they were
not disappointed at all. It was the second won for the 22-year-old German in six previous encounters. So, the pressure was on her to generate favourable results.
Jovanovski commenced the match with a serve hold and a see-saw battle continued between the two players for quite some time. Lisicki was under pressure in the fourth game but she did well to hang on.
However, her resistance was broken in the eighth game by the Serb booming starlet who took a lead of 5-3. With no problem at all, the Serb held her final opening set serve and inched her nose ahead of her rival.
Lisicki turned the tables on her rival in the second set; grabbed two consecutive breakthroughs in the fourth and sixth game that rounded off the proceedings in her favour. No drama was witnessed at all for the first five games
and it seemed like the German 15th seed will face yet another early exit from the tournament but a sudden outbreak changed the whole posture of the match.
The final set started with an exchange of breakthrough. However, there were no breakthroughs witnessed for the following 11 games that pushed the scores to 7-6 in favour of the German with her opponent to serve the next game.  Jovanovski
tried her best to hang on; lead 40:15 at one stage but the German youngster pounced back on her and won the breakthrough to win the match.
In a post0match interview, Lisicki said, “I was a bit nervous, which I didn't expect in the beginning, so I didn't start off too well. But I kept fighting, and that's what counts in the end. I got through, so I get another chance
to play better tennis next time. We'll go out there and practice tomorrow, so I should be fine."
Sabine Lisicki faces the American professional, Sloane Stephens, in the round of 32. It is expected to be an easy draw for the German beauty queen who has been a heartthrob of millions of people across the globe. She was missing
out on different tournament failing to make a mark and injuries surrounded her as well. So, it was a tough time for her fans. They are eager to witness her in devastating run of form having registered a stupendous season last year; making it to the Top-20
players list from somewhere near 200th spot. A remarkable achievement is asking for a Grand Slam cherry at the top to cap it and this is her chance to stun the world.
