Sabrina Jaquet tames Panuga Riou in Women’s Singles second round of Yonex Dutch Open 2012
Switzerland’s elite shuttler Sabrina Jaquet was in remarkable form in Women’s Singles round-of-16 battle when she stamped her mark over England’s Panuga Riou at the Yonex Dutch Open 2012 on Thursday, October 11, in Netherlands.
The un-seeded Sabrina, who has been putting up staggering show of positive and aggressive badminton throughout the tournament, continued her winning streak in the pre-quarter-final clash and remained successful in beating her English rival in a crushing
fashion.
Sabrina was quite confident on court as she played with aggression and precision in the whole competition and easily overpowered Panuga in straight sets with a decent margin in just 29 minutes.
On the other hand, Panuga also showed glimpses of her brilliance in the arena as she gave a good fight in both games but failed to live up to the expectations in the concluding points and ultimately lost the match in two games.
In the first set, it was the Swiss shuttler who controlled and dictated the pace of rallies from opening points of first set and remained in strong position at the opening stage.
Sabrina was comfortable in moving fast in all corners of the court and managed to take an impressive 11-5 lead on score board until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Sabrina remained on track and did not let Panuga to reduce the huge gap on score board as she dictated the pace of the game in an impressive fashion.
The Swiss shuttler managed to stay in lead and remained successful in taking the opening set with a 21-17 score on the board.
In the second set, Sabrina again was the one who took a reasonable lead at the opening stage without facing any considerable problem and maintained her position until the end of first half.
After the one-minute interval, the in-form Sabrina remained positive and confident on court as she did not show any sign of slow down the pace of the game and won the set with a decent margin of 21-18.
The lofty Sabrina won this pre-quarter-final match in just 29 minutes with a superb 21-17 and 21-18 score on the board.
