this year. Jones will be the second fan favourite to win the tournament after Kiwi number one, Erakovic.
Officials have been able to attract number of talented hi-fi superstars of tennis that are well known amongst the tennis fanatics across the globe. The cut-off for eight top seed superstars is just world number thirty. It will
be another exciting event to witness before the first grand slam, Australian Open, starts from 16th January.
World’s second best doubles pair in the world will also return to the ASB Tennis Centre arena to defend their title. The team of Kveta Peschke of Czech Republic and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia is ranked at number two in the
world rankings and will face-off their competitors in the hunt of retaining their title intact.
Richard Palmer, Tournament Director, was pleased to see the familiar faces returning to the arena and showing their loyalty to the tournament. He was excited to announce the entry of local favourite Sacha Jones and was glad to
know that doubles world number two duo is playing in 2012.
He said, "When we announced the ASB Classic full field I said it was one of the best fields in the tournament's history. To have the world's second best doubles pair is the icing on the cake for tennis fans."
This year campaign in ASB Classic was not an ideal one for Jones as she lost in the first round of the tournament at the hands of Svetlana Kuznetsova but her following performances were promising enough to give her the second opportunity
next year.
She is just 21-years-old and needs a lot of improvement in her game to make a name in the field of tennis especially on elite platforms like grand slams and other major WTA tournaments. She was the finalist of US$25,000 Women’s
ITF event in Traralgon Australia and rounded-off her season on a high note that promises a comprehensive start to the new season at Auckland.
