Sacha Modolo picking up form ahead of the Giro d’ Italia
Sacha Modolo of Team Colnago-CSF finally found his winning ways at the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey 2012.
The Italian stole the show during the sixth stage of the race and overcame the race favourites after his splendid performance at the event.
He finished the race in a fastest time of 4 hours and 34 minutes to grab the top podium position with Matthew Harley Goss of Team GreenEdge and Mark Renshaw of Team Rabobank achieved the second and the third spot.
The cyclist was delighted after the stage win and thanked his team-mates for their constant support during the 8-day contest.
"With my teammates, I've been working on lead-outs since the beginning of the year and it didn't quite work out until now, I came second at the Circuit de la Sarthe three times".
"I needed to get this monkey off my back. Remember last year, as soon as I won a race, I won ten of them back to back", he explained.
Modolo briefed that the Milan-San Remo and the London Olympics are the two main goals of his 2012 season.
The cyclist could not perform to his calibre during the Milan-San Remo and is now eyeing the Giro d’ Italia to build up for the coming Olympics Event.
Sacha believes that his current form will definitely help him in securing stages at the Italian Grand Tour 2012.
He said, "The atmosphere in the team is great because in the region of one week, we've won the Giro del Trentino with [Domenico] Pozzovivo, two stages here in Turkey with [Andrea] Di Corrado and myself, one with a breakaway”.
Sacha briefed to Turkish media that he is enjoying the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey and is looking forward to participate at the race in years to come.
The 24-year-old is riding with the Team Colnago-CSF Inox since the start of his professional career and has denied all the rumours of leaving the Irish team in the seasons to come.
The cyclist mentioned that he has been contacted by several teams but he is most likely to renew his contract with Team Colnago-CSF.
