Sacha Modolo wins the second stage of the Giro di Padania 2012
Sacha Modolo of Team Colnago-CSF Inox won the second stage of the Giro Di Padania 2012 in front of the home crowd.
He was challenged by Maximiliano Richeze of Team Nippo and Alessandro Petacchi of Team Lampre-ISD but had enough legs to bag the sixth win of his 2012 season.
The Italian took a total time of 5 hours, 24 minutes and 16 seconds to complete the race and restricted Richeze and Petacchi for the second and the third positions.
He was delighted after the stage win and thanked his teammates for their continuous support throughout the 223 kilometre race.
“Today was a second team time trial. Coledan and Canola did incredible work. In the beginning, nobody would help us, which was logical because we had the jersey with Colbrelli”.
“But we were able to bring back the break, which had a lead of over two minutes with 25km to go, and then I was ready for the sprint”.
“We anticipated Petacchi and Lampre in the sprint. It was the only way to beat him as he is more powerful than I am,” Modolo said. “It was a real emotion to hear my name and see all the support for me at the finish. I couldn’t disappoint them”.
Gianluca Maggiore of Team Utensilnord Named won both, the opening sprint and the first mountain of the event.
Andrea Palini of Team Idea, Fabian Schnaidt of Team Specialized Concept Store, Grzegorz Stepniak of Team CCC Polsat Polkowice, Glia Favilli of Team Farnese Vini and Fabio Felline of Team Androni Giocattoli-Venezuela were the top five young riders of the day.
It was a double joy for Team Colnago-CSF as Sonny Colbrelli managed to retain the blue jersey and is still leading the overall classifications.
Gianluca Brambilla, Domenico Pozzovivo, Enrico Battaglin and Angelo Pagani occupied the second, third, fourth and fifth positions in the respective order.
Gianluca Maggiore, Stefano Borchi and Mariano Giallorenzo were the top three cyclists after the mountains classifications at the race.
Team Colnago-CSF Inox, Team Androni Giocattoli, Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Lampre-ISD and Team Acqua & Sapone secured the next four positions in the respective order.
