Sacha Modolo wins third stage as race gets new overall leader in Giro di Padania 2011

Colnago-CSF Inox team’s Sacha Modolo proved his powerful skills in the third stage of Giro di Padania 2011 on Thursday, September 8. He also took the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The race started in Malpensa Lonate Pozzolo and ended in Salsomaggiore Terme. The 24-year-old Italian racing cyclists took a total of 4 hours, 52 minutes and 42 seconds to cover the distance of 198 kilometres.
In the first climb of the stage, the three cyclists went clear including, Edoardo Girardi, Wesley Sulzberger and Gregoire Tarride. While, Girardi took maximum points and after a few kilometres Oss launched an attack to take the second climb.
After few circumstances, the Liquigas-Cannondale team managed to control the affairs in the last kilometres and the break came from a group of three cyclists including Oscar Gatto (Farnese Vini-Neri Sottoli), Giuseppe De Maria (De Rosa Ceramica Flaminia)
and Miguel Rubiano Chavez ( D’Angelo & Antenucci).
Daniel Oss showed a good effort and Viviani tried his best to take the lead but Modolo launched an attack and crossed the finish line ahead of the other cyclists.
Elia Viviani of Liquigas-Cannondale was runner-up with same timing of the Italian while Danilo Napolitano (Acqua & Sapone) was in third place ahead of Fabio Taborre and Danilo Hondo.
The 72 cyclists crossed the final line with the same timing of Modolo and Simone Campagnaro (D'Angelo & Antenucci-Nippo) tried to take a lead and catch the leading riders but failed to hold his pace and secured 73rd place with the difference of
11 seconds down to the Italian.
Recently, Modolo took the fifth stage of Tour of Qinghai Lake and first place in Brixia Tour. He also took the runner-up spot in Tour of Denmark.
Modolo also grabbed the overall standing with a timing of 13 hours, 35 minutes and 54 seconds while Elia Viviani of Liquigas-Cannondale was in second spot with 4 seconds down to the Italian.
Manuel Belletti (Colnago-CSF Inox) finished third with a difference of 22 seconds ahead of Baptiste Planckaert.
The next stage will start in Noceto and end in San Valentino di Brentonico as all the cyclists will cover the distance of 175 kilometres.
