There is hardly any cricket analyst on the planet who can question the notion that Sachin Tendulkar is one of the greatest batsmen of all times. If someone does so, one needs to reassess his sporting intellect as there is barely any
batting record in either Test cricket or the 50-over format which is not under the great man’s belt.
Having scored more than 33 thousand runs at the ultimate stage of the game, with the help of 100 tons, we do not find a single batsman who even comes close the batting-maestro’s statistics. Quite bafflingly, the 39-year-old champion
sportsman is playing international cricket since 1989.
Ironically, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755; whereas, some of the great cricketer’s current teammates in the national team as well
in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians were not even born, when the right-hander had already become a superstar in the country.
Anyone who has played competitive cricket at any level understands the challenge of maintaining the hunger to succeed in professional sport for such a long time.
So far, the little-master has played 190 Tests, 463 One Day Internationals and a T20 for the Men in Blue, which in other words mean that the former Indian captain has spent about 3.8 years of his life playing international matches only.
Whenever a historian will write about the ‘gentlemen’s sport’, he would have to be an extremely unjust man not to mention Tendulkar’s name there. Apart from having staggering stats and averages in both limited-over as well as in the
longer format of the game, the great man has had a scandal-free career, unlike most of the other international cricketers, who go out of control upon getting fame and money. That has not been the case with the legendary cricketer, who remains a ‘down to earth’
person.
Over the last 18 months however, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 last year, which resulted in the retirements of his former teammates,
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772, who were also great players in their own rights.
Some of the former cricketers have asked the miraculous batsman to call it a day from international sport but the former India captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
Tendulkar’s recent century in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy, representing Mumbai, has allowed Gavaskar to speak with so much confidence.
“He is one the most hardworking studious guys you come across. I think Sachin would have got enough time to think about how he got out. If he has got the runs now, obviously he has worked hard for it. The evidence will be seen in the
Test matches. The fact that he has got runs is a good sign," Gavaskar expressed.
India’s former coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Geoffrey-Wright-c67883, is also of the opinion that nobody should force Tendulkar to retire as a loss of form is a part and parcel of the game.
Wright believes, "If you are up for 23 years, at some point of time there will be troughs. I am sure he is aware that he is not at the peak of his career and it is up to him to decide."
The four-match series between India and England starts on November 15, with the first Test at Ahmedabad. The odds are against the great player but all legends get going when the going gets tough for them. Watch out England!!
