Sachin Tendulkar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 included in Ian Chappell’s 2010 World XI
Sachin Tendulkar, the emphatic batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 along with the inspiring captain MS Dhoni have been placed into the ‘2010 World XI’ list of the former Australian skipper Ian Chappell.
Among other Indian cricketers who have found places into the World XI list, we have hard hitting batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429 and the experienced pacer Zaheer Khan. While considering players from other teams as well, Chappell’s list included five South African
cricketers.
While giving the reasons for not having any of the Australian players into his World XI list, the former skipper wrote in his column, “Four years ago the Australian cricket team was c**k-a-hoop. They’d regained the Ashes and had accentuated their superiority
by smashing England at the MCG on the way to an eventual 5-0 series victory. Now the team is in tatters and it’s best illustrated by a comparison of World XIs chosen at the end of the calendar year.”
In context of World XI list, year 2006 was perhaps the best for Australia as six players of the team had been included into it, while Brett Lee was regarded as the 12th man. But now, four years down the line, no Australian could make into the
World XI. According to Chappell, only Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 has been considered as the 12th man of 2010’s the world best squad.
While explaining the reasons why the Australian players had lost their place in World XI squad, Chappell wrote, “It’s been a slippery dip for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918
and Mathew Hayden called it a day. They have now hit the sand pit because of the struggles of the one player who kept the brake on the downhill ride, Ricky Ponting.”
While talking about Sehwag, Chappell regarded him as the most dangerous batsman in the world. According to him, the Indian batsman was the most impressive opener, who had the potential of winning a game right in the opening session of the Test.
Chappell also went on praising the Indian little master Sachin Tendulkar, who, in his view, was getting better and better with the age. Chappell was of the view that Tendulkar’s case was totally contrary to that of Ponting as the former had rediscovered
the art of completely dominating the bowlers.
While establishing the reason for giving Dhoni and Zaheer a place into his World XI list, the veteran cricketer was of the view that both of them had been displaying consistent performances in their respective roles.
