Sachin Tendulkar appointed as ambassador for 2011 ICC World Cup
With exactly 100 days to go, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has named the prolific Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar as the official brand ambassador for the 2011 ICC World Cup which is scheduled to take place from February 19 to
April 2.
The chief executive of ICC http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 praised the batting maestro’s contributions in promoting the sport and said that the ICC is very lucky to have such an extraordinary batting legend to support its flagship event
"I don't think any other player has inspired a nation like he has and the respect and affection he enjoys goes way beyond his native India”, said Lorgat. “Many other athletes and sports fans around the globe admire what he consistently achieves
and what he does for cricket", added the ICC chief executive.
In his role as the official event ambassador, Tendulkar will be called upon to sponsor and shore up various ICC initiatives for the quadrennial tournament that would be co-hosted by three Subcontinent cricket playing nations, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, Sri
Lanka and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
The promising Indian batsman, who holds a record of scoring half-centuries in both One Dayers and Tests, said playing a World Cup on home ground will make the prestigious event even special for him.
The Indian team recently defeated the defending Champions, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, in both Test and ODI series. Their morale and confidence has been boosted and they are now eying the World Cup.
Tendulkar vowed that the Men in Blue would try their absolute best to lift a World Cup trophy on home soil, “As a team, we would be doing everything we can to win the World cup on home soil", said the honorary Group Captain of Indian Air
Force (IAF).
The ICC World Cup is the third major sporting event in the World. After playing in the next year’s World Cup, Sachin would become the only player after Pakistan’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 to take part in six World Cups.
