Sachin Tendulkar looks to continue after ICC 2011 World Cup win
Indian batting icon, Sachin Tendulkar, has vowed to carry on playing international cricket despite achieving crowning glory in one of the most illustrious careers in the history of the sport.
The premier batsman finally achieved World Cup glory as his team won the final by a convincing 6 wicket margin against their opponents, Sri Lanka, at the Wankhede stadium in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820.
He immediately deflected questions about his imminent future. He added that he wanted to celebrate with the rest of the team and concentrate on reflecting on the phenomenal achievement India made on the greatest stage of cricket.
He added that he always played for team glory and not for personal goals and records. Yet he has gone on to break a plethora of batting records, which is evidence of his motivation and desire for success.
"This is a moment to celebrate, not one to think about my future", Tendulkar told the ICC. "This is the reason I started playing cricket, to do something for the country. The process has been a long one, and I am still enjoying my game, so I don't see the reason to change anything".
The legend had to endure a long wait for cricket’s most coveted trophy. His campaign in the premier tournament started as a teenager in 1992.
He was the best batsman on show in the 1996 edition at home, however, the hosts crashed out to eventual champions, Sri Lanka, in an emotionally charged semi-final. India again crashed out before the semis in 1999, despite some stunning performances by Tendulkar.
In 2003 he was the man of the tournament and played a leading role in his team’s ascent to the final where they were destroyed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
2007 was considered his last World Cup and the Men in Blue had to endure a wretched first round exit after defeats to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
But he held on and was again batting as well as he had in the history of the tournament in the 2011 edition as the hosts coasted to the final match of the event.
The “Little Master” failed in the final, he edged a Lasith Malinga delivery behind to Kumar Sangakkara, yet the rest of the batting line-up led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 took the team home.
“There have been heart-breaking losses, in past campaigns we lost in the semi-finals and finals. I never gave up because this was my dream and now the team has managed to win this cup for the nation”.
Meanwhile, the entire Indian contingent praised Tendulkar for his role in Indian cricket in the last two decades. The outgoing South African coach of the team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527, for whom the World Cup final was his last game as coach, said that he didn't think Tendulkar would stop here.
"Sachin is the greatest sporting role model I've met in my life", said Kirsten.
Tendulkar added that he would announce his future plans in the next few days. However, most people in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 think that he would surely last for one more international hundred, which would take him to a century of tons at the highest level.
