The legendary Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, is grateful to the President of India, Pratibha Patil for nominating him as a member of Rajya Sabha but made it clear that he entered the fold of politics just to help improve sports in the country.
Tendulkar is one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the game and has brought a lot of laurels to the country. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s Prime Minister held a meeting with the batting legend last week and offered him a seat in the Rajya Sabha, which is the upper house of India’s parliament, which was approved by the Indian President.
Some of the former Indian cricketers expressed their surprise over Sachin’s decision to come in politics as they feel that the Little-Master should contribute towards the game of cricket, once he decides to call it a day in international cricket.
However, the great cricketer has made it clear that he will just play a role for the betterment of sports in India and has nothing to do with the traditional political culture of the country.
Tendulkar said, “It is an honour when the President nominates your name. I was excited to be nominated, I would definitely like to contribute in the field of sports because that is my expertise and I will need your (fans) help.”
While, appreciating President’s trust on him, the Little-Master expressed, “I believe President (Pratibha Patil) has chosen me after recognising what I have done for over 22 years.”
There has been some criticism on Sachin for prolonging his career as he is already 39 but the batting-maestro has no plans of quitting the game at the present moment of time and wants his fans to keep on supporting him at the twilight of his career.
“I am passionate about cricket. Cricket is my life. Keep praying for me so that I can derive strength from it,” he added.
