Sachin Tendulkar scores sixth double century in Test
Sachin Tendulkar scored his sixth double century in Test match cricket when he got to the milestone on Tuesday. He scored the remarkable feat on the fourth day of the second Test match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and
Australia.
Tendulkar was batting on 191 when the stumps were called on the third day of the Bangalore Test match and got to his double century when he just dabbed the ball in front of him and called his partner, MS
Dhoni through for a single.
This is Tendulkar’s second double century of the year after he had played another blinder of an innings against Sri Lanka in Colombo in the second Test match of the series. Tendulkar has made four other double
centuries in his career, against Australia, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
Tendulkar’s double centuries have come in pairs. His first two came in the 1999-2000 season, which was followed by another two in the year 2004. That has been followed by a couple of double centuries this
year – against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
In the process, Tendulkar joins four other batsmen who have scored six double centuries in Test match cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580. While Atapattu and Miandad
have already retired from Test match cricket, the other two are very much a part of their sides and can be expected to add to their tally.
However, six double centuries is not the all-time record by any means. There are two batsmen who have scored seven double centuries as well – Kumar Sangakkara, the current Sri Lankan captain and Wally Hammond.
At the number two in the list of most double centuries is Brian Lara, who scored nine of them. This includes a score of 400 and 375 that clearly outlines his appetite for scoring big runs.
The all-time record is held by the greatest batsman of all times, Sir Donald Bradman, who made 12 double centuries in his career.
