Sachin and Sehwag may be rested for Asia Cup - Cricket News Update
According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in Indian (BCCI) is mulling over the idea of resting their out of form opening batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 next month.
The decision is being considered after both senior men were unable to play at their best on the tour Down Under, resulting in a considerable decline in the overall performances of the Men in Blue, which currently seems destined to end on a very unsatisfactory
note.
Sehwag, after his substandard outings in the Test series, could only score 35 in his last four ODIs. He was also involved in an unpleasant ego-clash with skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, which allegedly led to a rift among the players.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HA-Varaiya-c1520, for his dazzling batting reputation, is still measured as a key player in the eyes of the selectors, who unlike the board are not keen on resting him for the upcoming tournament.
"He (Sehwag) is too big a player to be dropped. However, there could be a consensus on resting Sehwag. The sympathies of the selectors are with Sehwag and he could have been a replacement as ODI skipper in place of M S Dhoni had he been among runs," told
an official of board.
On the other hand, the Little Master’s future also remains unclear as reports suggest that the board wants to give him a break, following his failure to complete his hundredth century. This in turn will allow the legendary batsman to spend time out of the
limelight.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011. His meagre performances over the past few months has raised eye brows, with many renowned former cricketers advising him to retire at this stage, instead of stretching the
final days of his illustrious career.
Meanwhile, the board is also looking to induct other talented players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashok-Dinda-c1098, following their outstanding performances in domestic cricket.
The Indian squad for Asia Cup will be announced on March 1st, 2012 and the criteria for selection, as it seems, will revolve around performances rather than reputations.
