Speaking to the media reporters on Friday, the 60-year-old former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 all-rounder said that the master blaster is a mature and sensible cricketer who will himself call it a day as soon as he feels he is not performing up to the standards.
"I think http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607 has earned the right to decide when exactly he wants to put down his bat,” said Sir Viv Richards after the Indian veteran scored his elusive hundredth international ton.
“He is mature and sensible individual and more importantly a very proud cricketer. He is not going to continue if he feels he is not performing up to his standards," he further added.
Sir Richards, who played 121 Tests and 187 One Day Internationals for West Indies during his 17-year-long international career, spanning from 1974 to 1991, reckons the Indian batting prodigy, at a ripe age of 38, is still playing exhilarating cricket and
attracting crowds to the grounds, so retirement should not be imposed on him.
"... let it not be forgotten that he is no dour batsman, he still plays thrilling shots and has entertained more fans than any batsman has in the history of the game,” said the legendary West Indies all-rounder.
“All this with humility, bearing the burden of his team's batting and the expectations of his millions of fans," he added further .
