India’s modern great, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians (for whom the
batsman is playing in the ongoing 5th edition of the Indian Premier League) and the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 12 at Eden Gardens.
“It will be a great occasion and we plan to felicitate Sachin Tendulkar in a befitting way for his 100th international centuries milestone,” confirmed the State Sports Minister Madan Mitra, who had previously had a meeting with CAB chief http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jagmohan-Dalmiya-c65287
for the purpose of ironing out the details of the event.
He went on to explain that he had contacted Tendulkar regarding the proposition, and the 39-year-old had replied via email, expressing gratitude and eagerness at the prospect.
“I'm looking forward to the occasion. I will be honoured to be felicitated at the iconic Eden Gardens by the Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee),” the minister quoted from Sachin’s email.
Tendulkar reached his milestone 100th ton after struggling for more than a year to achieve the feat. He scored his 99th century against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in the 2011 World Cup last year, but failed to reach the three-digit mark in the matches
that followed.
The growing pressure appeared to have frustrated the batsman, and as he approached nearly a year without a century, the right-hander was contributing disappointing scores to his team’s performances.
However, India’s Asia Cup clash with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 marked the end of the drought, as Tendulkar went on to score a 114 on March 16 – his 100th century. The record was a spectacular addition to the list of records the batsman had already amassed (such
as his record for most ODI runs (18426) as well as most Test runs (15470).
The feat drew accolades from all quarters, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the latest to arrange a formal event for the Little Master. Earlier, she had also nominated his name for the Bharat Ratna – India’s highest civilian award – when he had reached
the milestone in March.
