Sacramento Kings’ Jimmer Fredette hosting an all rookie game: NBA Update
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is currently in a lockout which means there will no game until the players union and the NBA owners reach a settlement on the new Collective Bargaining agreement.
The whole revenue sharing issue has greatly tarnished the reputation of the league, the popularity of which reached new heights after an excellent last season. On one side if the fans have been deprived of hoops action, many NBA
players are facing the financial crunch and have either departed or are planning to play overseas during the work stoppage.
However, there are still many players, who are finding new ways to play basketball despite the lockout.
LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and other superstars have taken that route but as far as the rookies are concerned, Jimmer Fredette has been the most active. On Thursday, he will play an exhibition game at the Brigham
Young University’s Marriot Centre around 10 P.M with NBA’s unsigned rookies. The game has been named as the Jimmer’s All Star.
Talking to reporters, the Jimmer said “I am really excited for the game, a lot of work has been put into the event and it’s going to be a great one for the fans. There are some very competitive and skilled players joining us for
the game and it will be great to see everyone come together.”
Joining Jimmer will be Duke University’s star and the Miami Heat pick Nolan Smith, along with Jackson Emery and Kawhi Leonard. NCAA Championship and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kemba Walker will also be featuring in Thursday’s
game. Talking to media about the game, Smith praised Jimmer’s initiative;
"It’s going to be more serious than a summer league game, we’ll be able to have fun and make plays. It’s going to be very competitive. Jimmer and I are good friends; We became friends last summer in Las Vegas for USA basketball
tryouts. He’s a great guy ... great competitor.”
Fredette is one of the most exciting prospects of 2011 NBA draft. Although he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks as the 10th overall pick in the first round of 2011 NBA draft, but his pick does not truly justify his talent.
Jimmer Fredette had a brilliant career as a college player with the Brigham Young University. In his senior year, he was the leading scorer in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I.
Last year, he won all the major awards including National Player of the Year, the Wooden award, Naismith award, Adolph Rupp Trophy, and the Oscar Robertson award. Playing with Brigham Young Cougars in 2010-2011 season, he averaged
28.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. He has been tipped by many superstars including Kobe Bryant as the one for the future and he certainly has the initiative base covered.
