Sacramento Kings centre DeMarcus Cousins misses his college days: NBA Update
Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins is enjoying his time at a skill camp in University of Kentucky (UK).
When asked how much he misses UK on a range of one to ten, Cousins replied “10”. The former centre of University of Kentucky, Cousins said, "I miss this place.”
The 6 ft 11in player, who now plays centre with the Kings, is not squandering his time during the lockout and said that he wants to "just continue to try and get in better shape, get my body right to start the season.
Cousins, who was picked up as 5th overall from 2010 National Basketball Association Draft by the Kings, said,
"It's not really hard to find the motivation. I just want to increase every year and get better every year. That's my role right now. I've got to have a better season than I had my rookie season. That's my motivation."
During his first season as a rookie, Cousins scored at an average of 14.1 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in the 81 games he played. Cousins played for 28.5 minutes per game, during which he went 0.687 percent from the free throw line and .430 percent from the field.
Cousins has been looking to enhance his shooting percentage during this off time, both from the field and three-point range, which is currently 0.167 percent and falls in the below par category.
Besides the summer camp and his game improvement, Cousins is anxiously waiting for August 15, when he will once again play in Rupp, the home court of the Kentucky Wildcats. The 23,000 seat arena is the place where the Wildcats’ fans see their team in action more often.
Cousins and "Kentucky legends" team-mates will play in Rupp during an exhibition game against the Dominican Republic national team. The list of his fellows includes last year’s number one pick John Wall, Oklahoma City Thunder’s centre Nazr Mohammed, Keith Bogans, Jodie Meeks, Eric Bledsoe, Tayshaun Prince and the Celtics swingman Rajon Rondo.
An excited Cousin said, "It's going to be fun. Playing with John, Eric ... again — it's going to be a lot of fun. Playing with Rajon, that's going to be an experience."
He also added that, "We're going to put on a show, and we're going to win. I mean, we're still undefeated in Rupp, so we're going to keep it that way."
DeMarcus, is looking ahead to play at Rupp in case the lockout stretches further, as he didn’t get the chance to play last year because of his hectic schedule. As far as the basketball team of the UK is concerned, Cousins believes that it’s "a very talented class" of freshmen and he would love to see them in action.
