Sacramento Kings forward Tyreke Evans claims to be on the mend – NBA Update
Sacramento Kings might not be the one of the successful franchises in the league, but they certainly have quite a few young talented players.
However, all of them seem to have hit a roadblock or two in their young careers. One of them is Tyreke Evans, the player who was plagued by a foot injury last season, one which has casted doubts over his long term fitness. However,
the Kings star now says that his foot is completely healed and he is more than ready to explode next season.
“I’m 100 percent. My foot is fine. I’m just looking for this year to start and to go out there and play. When it’s time, I’ll go out there and just play like I played my first year in the league. [Last season] I was [always] thinking
about it.”
The Sacramento Kings will certainly be hoping for that.
Evans broke out as a superb young player for them in his first year. The young guard was a standout performer and won the Rookie of the Year award due to his impressive numbers.
His sophomore year was supposed to be the next step in his progression to a genuine NBA star. However, his foot injury stalled any advances he was looking to make. Evans suffers from plantar fasciitis, an ailment which kept him
out for long stretches last season, once for 19 straight games. Even when on the court, he did not look like his rookie self and his mobility seemed obviously lower due to the niggling injury.
As a result, Evans could not be his high flying self, he could not be as aggressive and he failed to drive to the rim as often as he did the previous year. On average, he got to the rim two more times in his rookie year as compared
to the sophomore year. This lack of explosiveness also made Tyreke an easier target to defend and he was closed out more often than not.
The predicament with a plantar fasciitis is that there is no set cure for it. The best thing for Tyreke would have been rest, but that wasn’t much of a possibility in the middle of the season. However, since the end of the regular
season, Tyreke has had plenty of time to lie around and let his body recover and the player now seems confident that it has benefited him to the extent where he can make the bold claims that he did.
If Evans indeed is fully recovered, the Kings can look forward to an exciting year with some quality young players like John Salmons, DeMarcus Cousins and Jimmer Fredette already in the mix.
