Sacramento Kings bring Keith Smart and Bobby Jackson on the coaching staff: NBA News
Lockout or no lockout, the Sacramento Kings are continuing their preparations for the next season, whenever it starts.
The team officials announced on Tuesday, November 15, the hiring of former Golden State Warriors head coach Keith Smart and Sacramento Kings standout Bobby Jackson in their coaching staff. The two new additions Keith Smart and
Bobby Jackson will work under the veteran Paul Westphal who has been coaching Sacramento Kings since 2009.
For King’s ex-point guard Jackson, it is going to be the first experience to work as an assistant coach. The 38-year-old Bobby Jackson has played for 12 years in NBA and was a part of the Sacramento King’s line-up in the final
days of his playing career.
Jackson played six complete seasons in Sacramento King’s uniform and he is well aware of the working condition and management of the team. During his NBA career as a player, Bobby gathered 7,344 points, 2,347 rebounds and 1,945
assists. One of the major achievements for Bobby Jackson was winning the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in 2003 for Kings. In that year, Bobby registered his career best performance with an average of 15.2 points, 3.7 boards and 3.1 assists.
During the last two years, Bobby Jackson was working as the special assistant for the basketball operations for Sacramento Kings and it is the first time Jackson will work on the coaching staff of any team.
On the other hand, the 47-year-old Keith Smart carries a substantial amount of experience under his belt both as the head and assistant coach. Although Smart doesn’t have any big achievements in the field of coaching however he
can definitely help Sacramento Kings with the experience of more than a decade. Overall, Keith Smart has played and coached in NBA for nearly 20 years and this is what makes him a special pick for any team.
The Sacramento Kings has been among the weakest teams of the Western Conference since last few seasons and they will be hoping that the new additions of the coaching staff will change that tradition. The Kings drafted Brigham Young
University’s superstar Jimmer Fredette with their 10th overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft and the coaching staff of the team now has an incredible talent who can help the team come out of their adversity if he is trained the right way.
Sacramento Kings further made some changes in the front office as well by hiring Dwayne Wilson as an equipment manager and promoting two staff members.
